As part of efforts to create awareness about the ongoing construction of Lagos to Ibadan Standard gauge railway line, the Minister of Transportation Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi embarked on a trial run of the train operation from Iju to Ibadan preparatory to commencement of free train ride.
The minister made this known at Moniya in Oyo state after a trip from Iju to Moniya in Oyo state.
According to him, Monday passengers will enjoy free return train ride from Iju to Ibadan once daily.
The minister also disclosed that from December 21, this year the frequency of the train will be increased from one return train in a day to two return train daily from Agege to Moniya in Oyo state.
He stated further that some of the 10 railway stations currently under construction between Lagos and Ibadan has reached various stages of completion.
Amaechi however implored officials of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation to employ more workers so that block work can be completed pending when the other materials required for completion of work on the station buildings.
He noted that work is currently ongoing to link Ebute Junction to Apapa port adding that when completed it will enhance evacuation of bulky goods from the Apapa port to the hinterland.
